A U.S.-based firm – Taimerica Management – has released an interesting presentation about economic development myths. They assert that some of these myths and false statistics have governed ec dev practices for decades and have subsequently led to bad decisions and poor planning.
Some of the myths they challenge:
- Myth: Economic Development is primarily about creating “jobs”
- Myth: Communities need to pursue the “creative class” if they hope to flourish in the New Economy
- Myth: 80 % of new jobs are created through the expansion of existing businesses
You can see all the myths and Taimerica’s realities here. Found via Economic Development Marketing.
